When the pharmacy was left without a manager or regular pharmacist, dispenser Denise Woodmansey stepped into a challenging and stressful situation, taking her pharmacy team from strength to strength.

“Denise deserves this award more than anyone. She gives her all into everything,” says nominator and dispenser, Murran Rollo. “Denise stepped up and took the role of leadership. It was a tough few months, but because of Denise we pulled through. She welcomed everyone with open arms, helped everyone when we needed it. She was a star and a real backbone to the shop.” 

After establishing a new workflow system as a team, things in the pharmacy began to run smoothly again, under Denise’s care. “Denise has stepped up and led change throughout her business ensuring she is engaged and involved which makes sure patients get the best outcomes,” says Janice Perkins, RoE judge and chair of the RPS Community Pharmacy Expert Advisory Group. “She is committed to developing her team.”

She certainly is, Denise even sets out to pay special attention to new starters, ensuring they are comfortable and have the chance to shadow senior members of staff to improve their learning. 

“Denise has shown great leadership skills, taking on a pharmacy with no manager, no regular pharmacist and a team of new staff,” adds Mimi Lau, RoE judge and managing director of Pickfords Pharmacy. “She is clearly very passionate and conscientious that new staff are inducted and trained well so they are effective and motivated.”
